EXR
Unlock the dynamic potential of Fujifilm's EXR-CMOS sensor.

In short
The EXR sensor is found in Fujifilm's X10, X20, X30, XQ2, XF1, and X-S1 cameras, supporting early film simulations.
The complete toolkit
Released in 2011, the 12MP EXR-CMOS sensor was Fujifilm's innovative step to balance resolution with dynamic range and low-light sensitivity. It achieved this by pairing adjacent same-colour photosites, offering photographers a choice between high resolution and improved sensitivity. Found in compact models like the X10, X20, and X30, the EXR sensor was appreciated for its versatility, making it ideal for varied shooting conditions. Its ability to switch modes based on shooting needs allowed photographers to capture images in challenging lighting environments without compromising detail, enhancing both creative and practical flexibility.
The EXR generation's film simulations are more limited compared to later X-Trans sensors. While it lacks modern favourites like Classic Chrome and Acros, its dynamic range and low-light capabilities can still be creatively leveraged. Recipes from newer generations lose features like Colour Chrome Effect and Clarity when adapted to EXR bodies. Despite these limitations, the sensor's inherent versatility allows photographers to experiment with available settings and simulations to achieve distinctive results.
When adapting recipes from newer generations, expect a loss of colour depth enhancements like Color Chrome Effect and Clarity.
The EXR-CMOS sensor marked a shift from Bayer to Fujifilm's unique sensor designs.
EXR lacks the colour depth and film simulation variety of X-Trans I.
